La Paz Events JANUARY • Jan 1st New Year's Day. This national holiday that features festivities,
parades and fireworks throughout the country. • Whale Watching Season. Different tours are available at La Paz Bay.
FEBRUARY
• Feb. 2nd, Candelmas. The Mexican equivalent to Groundhog Day. Many villages
and cities celebrate the promise of spring's arrival with candlelight processions.
Festivities include: music, dances, processions, food and other festivities leading
up to a blessing of seeds and candles in a tradition that mixes pre-hispanic
and European traditions,
marking the end of winter. • Off-Road Race. • La Paz 2002 Carnival. Celebrated with dancing, parades and a big fair.
APRIL
• Regatta Week, Sea of Cortez. • Musical presentation by local groups. Events held on mondays of April
at Constitucion Plaza. • La Paz Tequila and Mariachi Festival. A new tradition in La Paz. Come
and enjoy great parties with tequila and Mariachi music.
MAY
• 2 Seas 500 off Road Race and Festival of Kayaks. Events of the Foundation
of La Paz Festivities. • La Paz Foundation Fair and Festival. Festivities to commemorate the Foundation
of the city. • Big Tuna Fishing Tournament. With participants from La Paz and foreigners.
JUNE
• Off Road Race "Coyote 300" • "Copa Dorado" Fishing Tournament
JULY
• "Bahia de La Paz" International Fishing Tournament. With competitors
from different parts of the world.
AUGUST • Felix Sportfishing Tournament. Fishing tournament with participants from
La Paz and foreigners.
SEPTEMBER
• Annual Bisbee's Fishing Tournament. Sport fishing Tournament • 16 Sep. Independence Day. Public holiday celebrated throughout Mexico
with grand parades.
NOVEMBER
• Baja 1000 Off Road Racing. The best Off road Racing Contest.
DECEMBER
• Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe. Festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe,
patron of Mexico. Towns fill with processions and festivities. • 16-24 Dec. Las Posadas. Each night the faithful re-enact Joseph and Mary's
search for posada (shelter) on their journey to Belen. For the less devout, it's
